Welcome Back!
We hope you all had a wonderful break over the past two weeks. It has been pleasing to see the children settle back into school routines with great enthusiasm! We would like to take this time to send out a warm welcome to Yuno Kanda who started today in Room 8 and to Contstantin Gorny who started in Room 9 last week. We know you will have a wonderful time here at Beckenhman and will love the amazing parent community that we have here.
Rooms 21 and 22 have moved!
Thank you to Anna and Amy for their hard work shifting classrooms in the holidays. The rooms are looking amazing and they have a wonderful outlook aver the park. We will continue to work collectively as a team and will maintain our team interchange programmes.
In order for us to maintain consistency across our team, the Room 21 and 22 children will be eating with the rest of the team on the junior verandah and they will continue to play in the same areas as last term.
Keeping Ourselves Safe (K.O.S.)
For those of you who are not familiar with this programme, the aim of K.O.S. is to teach children how to keep themselves safe in a range of situations. We will be running this programme on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for the first 3 weeks of term. There are some home learning components to this programme which we will send home if there a need to complete a follow
up activity. Please make sure you check your child’s bag and complete the activity together. This will also be a great way of you knowing what we are covering in class.
Santa Maria
We will be continuing our visits to the Santa Maria Rest Home this term.
Here are the dates for your diary!
Room 7 Wednesday 11 September
Room 8 Wednesday 18 September
Room 9 Wednesday 25 September
Rooms 21 and 22 will be visiting in early Term 4.
TOPIC 2: Reach for the Stars
We will be focussing on a science based topic for the second half of this term which will be based around astronomical cycles and how different cultures have used myths and legends to explain their place in the world. The children will learn about the sun and moon and the impact they have on planet Earth. The children will also learn about the seasons, stars, constellations and how these have played an important part in cultural stories. Our home learning this term will be based on this topic. Feel free to send along any items that you think may support your child’s learning or if you know of useful websites that we can access at school or add to our team blog.
Drama Group
The Year 2-4 Drama group is starting this term. Children who are keen to participate in the drama sessions can do so every Monday lunchtime. If you think your child would benefit or enjoy these sessions, you might like to discuss it with them. We know they will have a fantastic time. Keep an eye out on the blog for updates!
Muddy Clothing
At this time of the year the park and grassed areas at school are very wet. Often the children who play in these areas get covered in mud and can become uncomfortable returning to class in damp or wet clothing and footwear. Children who play in these areas at lunchtime children have been asked to bring a change of clothing and footwear to school. This will also ensure the classrooms stay clean and tidy for the term. Thanks for your support with this.
Knitting Group
We have been lucky enough to have the St Martins Crafty Crafters volunteer their time to teach children in our team how to knit. 12 children have been selected to begin their knitting classes which are held every Tuesday in Room 2.
We know we have a busy term ahead and will keep you updated each week. Keep an eye out on the team blog for what is happening as our new Media Team reports on weekly class events. Remember we are always here to discuss any matters you may have in regard to your child at school. Our doors are always open!
