Welcome to the Pohutakawa Whanau Blog
We had a great start to the year in the Pohutakawa Team (Year 2-4). We think learning conferences played a big part in this. Thank you for prioritising these meetings and for the contributions you made.
Home Learning:
Sun-hats: These are compulsory from Monday. They are available for purchase at the school office before or after school.
Books for the library: Thanks to those of you who have donated books or time to get our temporary library up and running. Ann Chin is working flat out and it is exciting to see things coming together in Room 10. Barrington Paper plus is the place to visit if you would like to purchase a book to donate to our library, at 30% off the full price.
Home Learning in 2013: We have been taking a good look at how we do home learning in our team. What are really aware of the many after school commitments for both parents and children, therefore we have decided to streamline our home learning programme. We are sure that our new system will help cater to the varied learning of individual children as well as be motivational. To this end we have come up with a new approach that will individualise home learning to better meet the needs of each student.
Each night the children will be required to read either a book that has been sent home by their class teacher, or a book which they are currently reading as a personal selection. Your child will need to fill in their reading log and you will need to sign as has been the process for the pat couple of years. Every 5 weeks, your child will be given a home learning matrix based on a bank of options related to our in class learning. Your child will be required to complete a task each week form the selection and ring it to school each Monday.
