We have been having a focus on how to write a paragraph to include detailed facts on the same theme. We wrote an explanation about how a frog grows and when we were finished we shared our writing with a buddy. We then collaboratively wrote a simple explanation about how a frog grows.
We liked working with others as it helped us to share and extend our thinking and gave us support of we needed it. Here are some of the paragraphs that we wrote.
How a Frog Grows
First, the female lays thousands of eggs called spawn. They have hundreds of eggs because they probably have lots of predators that eat them. The eggs are clear so they can't see them and this camouflages them in the water.
The female normally lays her eggs under wood, near the bank or under any type of platform to keep them safe.
She always lays her eggs in a group so they can grow up together until they become fully adult frogs.
How Frogs Grow
Making Eggs
Before a female frog can have babies she must find a mate. Once she finds a mate they will disappear from sight to mate. Nobody has seen two frog's matting before. The reason why she must find a mate is because the male has the right chemicals to make babies.
Laying the eggs and tadpoles
When the female frog is laying the eggs she lays them in a big pile and this is called frog spawn. This is so they are harder to eat because they are so big. The eggs are clear and soft like jelly so they are hard to see in the water. The tadpoles grow inside the egg and when they are big enough they hatch out.
