What is Rubbish?
Today we discussed the question- What is rubbish?
Many of the children described rubbish as being, paper, chip packets, food packets, glad wrap, cardboard, glass bottles, plastic bottles and packaging. We showed the children this image and asked the question again.
"Is this rubbish?"
We had a great debate with many children deciding this was in fact not rubbish. Here were their ideas
I think the chair is not rubbish because you can sew it up and use it again.
I think that it is not rubbish because you can use the parts.
The chair looks really good so it isn't rubbish.
The plastic around on the ground is rubbish.
After discussing other images and the meaning of the word rubbish, we decided that rubbish is...
Something that someone no longer wants. This can be things that are broken or things that can be used again.
"Another man's trash is another person's treasure." This means that what I call rubbish, might be useful to someone else.
