Team News Update Week 4

Kia Ora Koutou,

This is just a quick update to let you know what is happening for the next half of the term. Hold your hats! It’s going to be busy!

SPACE DAY

As part of our ‘Reach for the Stars’ inquiry, we thought it would be fun to hold a space/astronaut day for the children on Tuesday 27th August. The children will be encouraged to come to school in comfortable space themed attire.
The children will participate in five 45 minute space themed lessons over the course of the day. The aim of this day is to ignite and extend their interest and knowledge in astronomical systems.

END OF TERM PERFORMANCE

We are planning to share our learning of astronomical systems and how cultures have used myths and legends to explain unique features in their local environment in a Year 2-4 performance. This will be held on Tuesday 24th of September in the school hall. A notice with more detail will come out as the term progresses. You might like to put this in your diary now.

COURT THEATRE PERFORMANCE

To assist us with our team performance, we have booked the court Theatre team who are going to come to school to perform a play called, ‘EPIC JOUNREY TO THE SHOPS’ at 9.30am on Tuesday 3rd September, 2013.
This play is sure to be filled with musical surprises and will explore the theatrical possibilities when language is limited. It traces a journey in which a small trip to the shops has epic consequences. In order to prevail triumphantly, our hero must employ the five key competencies: thinking, using language, self-management, relating to others, and contributing.
Following this, there will be 3 x 1 hour sessions with years 2-4 on fundamental performance principles, namely working together in groups, listening, and generating creative offers. The next day (Wednesday 4th), there will be 2 x 1 hour sessions with the remaining 2 classes. We will apply these skills when developing our scenes for our performance.

BEHAVIOUR AND KEEPING OURSELVES SAFE

Over the past two weeks we have had lots of discussion about how to keep safe in a variety of situations. Thank you so much for supporting the class programme by completing the home learning tasks with your child. There are two more tasks that need to be completed which have come home today.
In class we have been talking about what to do if we feel unsafe and the importance of telling an adult so they can help us. If your child has concerns with school (even if it seems minor), can you please let me know as sometimes there could be other issues happening. We have talked about using kind words especially in relation to being friends and when making comments about people and their food. If you have any concerns at all, please make your first priority to speak to me as I will endeavour to do all I can to remedy any situation. My priority is for the children to be safe and happy at school.

SCOOTERS AND WHEELS

This has started really well with the children having a wonderful time on their wheels at lunchtime. Our days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

PARENT HELP- SCULPTURE INSTALLATION

Are there any keen parents who would like to assist us in the installation of our PRIDE sculpture? We are looking at doing this on Tuesday 3rd September at any time in the morning as this is when Bruce Rodger is free to assist,(he is the lead teacher for the Environment Team). Alternatively, we could look at a weekend day. It would be great to have our sculpture installed over the next two weeks. Please email me if you are able to help us out. The children are really excited to see their hard work up on display!
